I used to be scared of marketing.
I’ve been a classical clarinetist, business consultant, corporate trainer, journalist, and technical writer. But it wasn’t until I started an environmental product business that I realized my true calling—marketer.
I never knew that “marketing” was just a fancy work for “communication.” Or “applied psychology.” Or “explaining new things to people.”
So I paid other people to do my marketing for me, until the day my business hit a bump in the road and I couldn’t afford the consultants anymore.
I still needed marketing, so I gulped and dug in. Almost immediately, I hit upon some tactics my consultants didn't seem to understand. These tactics worked, they weren't complicated, and they weren't expensive.
Also, they made my company feel more like me.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that a lot of conventional marketing "wisdom" is outdated. A lot of it is one-dimensional. And also, a lot of it is crazy expensive.
I now do more on my own in a few hours a week than my company ever did with multiple consultants.
I now understand the big picture of how social media, websites, email, and blogs work together to communicate, entertain, and sell.
MandyMac Creative got started when more and more of my musician friends decided they wanted to start businesses of their own. I didn’t want them to struggle the way I did, so I started offering my help.
If you’re one of the creatives working to make the world a better place, I’m happy you found me!
